An exhibition with an equine feel will hit Toowoomba this month in the newly relaunched space at Feather and Lawry Gallery. Horses and Horizons, by Queensland artist Laura Douglas is the gallery’s first solo feature artist for 2016.
Her exhibit comes off the back of an amazing live painting experience at the Melbourne Cup last year. While the rest of the country stopped to watch the Melbourne Cup Laura was there, painting in Gai Waterhouse’s private box and at trackside, capturing the strength, beauty and spectacle on display at the Cup.
The artist takes an unusual approach to creating her work – preferring to live paint and work ‘en plein air’, usually capturing horses and landscapes. For those of us who aren’t fluent in French en plein air means working in the open air. Laura says working this way allows her to capture the feel of a moment.
Horses and Horizons will open at Feather and Lawry Gallery, 5.30pm – 7pm | Friday, 26 February until Sunday, 13 March 2016.
Feather and Lawry Gallery is open seven days and located at 4 Russell Street, Toowoomba.
