The First Coat Studios are bursting with creative workshops this May!
First on the schedule is the fun Pattern Design Play with Katie Whyte (Nollerk). Katie’s shapes adorn several walls around town – you may recognise her work on the child care centre across from Grand Central.
Pattern finding and making is a large part of how Katie designs her paintings and murals. She’s always on the hunt for new textures to use in her work, experimenting with bold colours and shapes. If you want to learn more about Katie’s process, here’s a link to our interview with Katie last year.
In this workshop you will create collages by drawing abstract patterns to then build layered compositions. No former experience or skills are required, as you’ll be guided through a basic design process to create an artwork that’s unique to your own style and taste.
There’s no right or wrong in this workshop – you have the creative freedom to try new things and break down “art” into a series of fun experiments.
When:
Wednesday 2nd May, 6 – 8pm.
Cost:
2 hour session: $55 pp.
Bring Your Own:
Any visual inspiration – either digital or material – of colours, patterns and styles you admire in art, illustration, fashion design, photography, graphic design, etc.
Who:
Only 10 places are available for participants aged 16 years+.
