Break out the electric blankets, Toowoomba’s famous winter has arrived.
Whether it’s your first bitingly cold winter in Toowoomba, or you’ve been braving the winds here all your life, in the words of the always fabulous Karen Walker, it’s time to “grab a bottle, hunker down and pray for daylight”.
Here are some ways to survive winter in Toowoomba.
Lower your expectations
No matter how blue the sky looks outside, be prepared for the icy wind that will slice right through you and ever changing weather conditions. Don’t be fooled into not taking a jacket or adding that extra layer!
Make a standing lunch-time appointment with the Super Rooster drive through
Sure, nourishing soups and curries are the virtuous way to get through winter. But let’s not pretend that hot, salty chips you don’t even have to get out of your car for aren’t the easier answer to the daily lunchtime dilemma.
Wear your pjs to work
As kids we used to wear our pjs under our school uniforms because it was too cold to get changed. Why can’t grown ups get away with this?
If you must wear business attire just do what my mum used to: iron only the bits of your shirt that will stick out from under a jumper. Total morning time saver.
Embrace the Ugg
Not just the staple footwear of bogans, the Ugg boot is a warm, fluffy hug for your feet and a winter lifesaver. This year UK Vogue has given us permission to bust out our ugly slippers, proclaiming Uggs are ‘back’. They even urged us to pair them with fishnets for a ‘sexy’ look.
No word on whether Anna Wintour agrees with this viewpoint or if the UK branch of Vogue has gone completely rogue on this important issue. Regardless, I’ll be rocking mine in downtown Toowoomba this winter.
How will you be surviving the Toowoomba winter?
