Local photographer Shardae Cannon knows the importance of documenting memories. Her business, Cherished Studios specialises in capturing milestones like weddings, engagements, maternity, birth photography, and family portraits.
Cherished Studios is now offering free photography sessions to families who are affected by circumstances such as terminal illness.
“I love being able to capture images that stir a special feeling in you when you look at them,” says Shardae. “I want my clients to look at their photos and be taken right back to that moment. Feeling the love, connection and emotion that was felt right then and there. After all, isn’t that why we have our pictures taken?”
This year, Shardae is combining that love of capturing milestones with another cause that’s close to her heart. Cherished Studios is now offering free photography sessions to families who are affected by circumstances such as terminal illness.
Shardae says it’s important to her that Cherished Studios gives back to the community. And her reason for reaching out to families affected by loss is quite personal.
“Over the last year in particular, lives of people I know have been ripped apart by terminal diagnosis, and some have already passed,” she says. “It really makes you think about how short life is, and what you are left with once someone is gone.
“A lot of families don’t take the time to have professional photos taken, quite often life gets in the way. Or it’s just not within their budget. I want to be able to help families have more than just memories. And I want to take away the obstacles families may have when it comes to having photos taken, especially when they may be dealing with medical bills and other stresses.”
Shardae says she will be accepting two to three families a month, and encourages you to get in touch as she may be able to work with additional families each month on a case-by-case basis.
She says none of the photos taken will be used for her own promotional purposes.
“In fact the family can opt for them never to be used by me if they wish. It really is just a gift,” she says.
