Spring is here and that means more than flowers and sneezy fits of hayfever. It also means chefs gettin’ creative in the kitchen with new Spring menus.
We were recently invited to taste test the Spring flavours at the Toowoomba Golf Club in Middle Ridge. This busy spot is not just big with golfers but with foodies who know the club’s ‘Ridges Bar & Bistro’ restaurant is a hidden gem in Toowoomba’s dining scene.
Head chef Katie Phillips said the spring menu includes pops of fresh produce, including heirloom tomatoes (you’ll find them on the bruschetta) and a textures of beetroot salad.
You’ll find the menu has a great selection of tapas share plates ranging from $6/8 (member/non-member) to $14/$16 each, or you can grab a share platter of four for $40/$45.
If you’re hankering for a bigger feed you’ll find it here too – the main meals include a 300g sirloin, lamb cutlets, pan seared salmon, and lemon and thyme spatchcock. However the highlight has to be the pork schnitzel – the schnitty to end all other schnittys – a huge hunk of brined pork that’s coated in crispy crumbs and accompanied by a light slaw. It’s juicy, tender and crunchy all at the same time. Insert heart eyes here.
We sampled the bruschetta, fried squid, popcorn chicken, and duck pancakes from the tapas menu, pesto chicken and sundried tomato pizza from the stone baked pizza menu, and the sweet potato fries and aioli from the sides. We also snuck a bite of that amazing pork schnitzel from the mains menu.
Standouts were the bruschetta (fresh and light), sweet potato fries (sooo good), the fried squid (great texture and crispy without being greasy), and the popcorn chicken (zingy morsels that were easy to keep reaching for). Next time we’ll be heading in before 5.30pm to sample the lunchtime options that included southern fried chicken sliders and a wagyu steak sandwich.
There’s plenty here to keep everyone happy, with options for kids, gluten free peeps and vegos. Head in to share the tapas on the deck overlooking the course while the golfer in your life takes on the course, or grab a big meal after a long day on the green.
The Toowoomba Golf Club also does events and weddings. It’s recommended you book ahead. They’re located at 235 – 323 Rowbotham St, Middle Ridge and you can also find them on Facebook and Instagram.
