Get excited, because Toowoomba’s blossoming market scene is adding another way to get your hands on original, handmade goodies with the debut of The Original Mix’s Emerging Designer Market on 12 March.
Taking its cue from well-known indie markets like Finders Keepers, the BrisStyle Markets and the Gold Coast Design Collective Markets, the focus of our newest market is on supporting independent makers and artists offering uniquely beautiful goods.
Amie Johnson, one half of the duo behind The Original Mix says it’ll be a boutique affair, with only 35 carefully curated stalls invited to take part in the debut event.
“It’s a very niche pop up style market,” she says. “We wanted to be a bit different and offer a mix of more high-end, artisan handmade goods.
“There’s fashion, textiles, prints, jewellery and we’ll have a space for independent musicians and a few food stalls, although they’re not the focus.”
Amie says the set up of the market, which will be held in the new Civic Square space outside the library, will also be a little different to encourage shoppers to stay and explore.
“Markets are normally set up in rows but we’re setting up in a circle with a zone in the middle for people to sit and enjoy food and music,” she says. “It’s really about creating a relaxed vibe and a space where people can not only find some unique and creative goods but sit and chill out.”
Amie says depending on the success of the Emerging Designer Market the team behind The Original Mix will potentially look at collaborating with local creatives to host other pop up events to bring more music, art and design to Toowoomba.
For now, the plan for the Emerging Designer Market is to keep it small to start with, refresh vendors every month so shoppers can discover something different with every visit and attract a variety of out-of-town and local vendors each month.
Want a sneak peek of vendors for the debut market? We can reveal you’ll find Inspired Focus Photography, Simplicitea, Willow Candles, Kenzie, Brisbane artist Sophie Blackhall-Cain and Deer and Fox all in the mix.
The Emerging Designer Market is on Saturday 12 March from 8am to 1pm in the civic square at the new library precinct. Hop on to Facebook and like The Original Mix to keep up to date with their events.
