After a sleepy June, Toowoomba and the surrounding region is perking up for events. Mostly it’s all about food with events like the Hampton Long Lunch, Good Food Month and wine and beer nights hitting the July calendar. And we couldn’t be happier about that. Stanthorpe Snowflake Festival – Friday 1 July to Sunday 3 July
Will it snow? We don’t know, but you better rug up just in case at the Snowflakes in Stanthorpe Festival. Over a weekend there will be a range of activities including an ice rink, snowman building competition, opening market featuring, music, whip cracking and fireworks.
Days 1 and 3 are free. Day 2 is $10 per adult and $5 per child with free entry for kids under 5. Additional charges apply for ice-skating. Find out more on the website or RSVP to the Facebook event.
Wine and Boutique Beer Night – Saturday 2 July
Toowoomba Motel and Events Centre is hosting a fabulous food, wine and beer night, with entertainment by local artist Tiapye. They’ll be serving Casley Mount Hutton Wines and Granite Belt Brewery beers with canapés, main and dessert for only $79 per person. Brisbane: Finders Keepers Market – Saturday 2 July and Sunday 3 July
The winter edition of Finders Keepers is on at the Old Museum in Brisbane. Find original and creative goods from designers both local and national and enjoy live music and food trucks. Entry is $2, open 9pm to 4pm both days.
McGregor Winter Workshops – Monday 4 July – Friday 8 July
Immerse yourself in art with a winter workshop at USQ Artsworx. There are classes for all skills levels, so don’t be shy. Find out more at artsworx.usq.edu.au
Museum Zoo at Cobb and Co – Monday 27 June – Friday 8 July (weekdays)
Keep the kids busy this school holidays at Cobb and Co’s Museum Zoo. You can see large mammals in the new exhibit, catch shows with live animals, go on a safari around the museum and take home an activity book. And, spend a night at the museum with the twilight event on Wednesday 6 July 4.30pm to 7pm. Cost is $10 per child, head to the Cobb and Co website for more info.
Hampton Festival Winter Harvest and Long Lunch – Saturday July 9 & Sunday July 10
Enjoy the best of what our local region has to offer this winter at the Hampton Festival’s Winter Harvest and Long Lunch on July 9 and 10.
Hosted by popular Queensland chefs Matt Golinski and Glen Barratt, diners will enjoy a three course banquet prepared by Matt and Glen and partake in a farm tour and producer talks. There will be a lunch on Saturday and Sunday, tickets are $150 per person. For more info visit www.hamptonfestival.com
Friday at the Flicks – Friday 15 July

Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase – Saturday 16 July
Get your giggles on at the Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase at the Empire Theatre. Tickets are $36 for adults; show starts at 8pm. Grab your tickets here.
Brisbane: Regional Flavours – Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 July
Make your way to Brisbane for the chance to see the entire Masterchef crew (Matt, George, Gary + Maggie Beer) and attend a producer market at South Bank with 80 stallholders from across Queensland. Brisbane: Night Noodle Markets – Wednesday 20 – Sunday 31 July
Speaking of food, July is Good Food Month and as part of that the Night Noodle Markets make its welcome return to Brisbane. Some of the best Asian venues from Brisbane will be setting up shop at South Bank, including Harajuku Gyoza who are bringing that crazy raindrop cake thing that took over Instagram recently. It’s a licenced event, free to enter, and full of deliciousness, RSVP on Facebook now.
Warwick: Jumpers and Jazz Festival – Thursday 21 to Sunday 31 July
Yarn bombing is a thing and it’s happening near you. Yarn bombing is the practice of using bright textiles to cover public objects. In Warwick, that means the trees wear jumpers and the rest of the town comes alive with jazz, workshops, markets and food. Run, Ride, Race for Research – Saturday 23 July
This massive multi-sport event is the first of its kind for the Toowoomba region. The event supports It’s A Bloke Thing, which raises funds and awareness for prostate cancer. Events include Kermesse, Gran Fondo, Cross Country MTB, 10km Trail Run and Motorcycle Trail Ride. Register for your event at rrr4research.com.au
Mexican Fiesta for Chiselhurst Kindergarten – Saturday 23 July
Get festive and help raise money for a kindy with the Chiselhurst Mexican Fiesta. For $65 a ticket you’ll get canapés designed by Fitzy’s and a beverage on arrival. There will be best dressed prizes and raffles as well as the Mariachi Sol De Brisbane band for entertainment. From 7pm to 11.30pm, more details on Facebook.
