The Labyrinth screening – Friday 1 April
Get back to Goblin City and give thanks for the 80s Bowie magic that is the Labyrinth movie at Event Cinemas on Friday night. Also screening: Alien. Showing at The Strand cinemas, tickets to each movie are $12.
Toowoomba Show – Thursday 7-Saturday 9 April
The show’s on again and we all get a holiday to celebrate on Thursday 7 April. There will be fireworks every night and a full program to be released soon.
Felton Food Festival – Sunday 10 April
Celebrate authentic country life and experience fresh country produce at the Felton Food Festival. Events include a crop tour, live music, Q&As, cooking demos and special guests like Matt Golinski and Costa Georgiadis. From 9am to 4pm, entry is by donation.
A Night of Fashion and Beauty – Thursday 14 April
Australia Arcade’s fashion houses have combined forces for the good of all of us and are hosting A Night of Fashion and Beauty. Explore the arcade, enjoy live music and nibble on canapés and refreshments while doing a spot of shopping in some fantastic local boutiques. Exhibition: Treks by Carol McCormack – Thursday 14 April-Sunday 15 May
Feather and Lawry Gallery brings Carol McCormack’s interpretation of Australian landscape art in her exhibit Treks. Opening night is Friday 15 April. The exhibit will run through to Sunday 15 May, Feather & Lawry Gallery is open seven days, Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm and Saturday to Sunday 11am – 3pm. RSVP to opening night on Facebook.
Theatre: Legally Blonde – Friday 15-Sunday 24 April
OMG. Elle Woods, Warner and Bruiser are bringing Harvard Law School fun to Toowoomba in the Empire Theatre stage production of Legally Blonde. If you’ve been following the Empire Theatre on social media you will know there will be an actual real live Chihuahua in the show, which is reason enough to bend and snap up a ticket. Opening Friday 15 April, ticket prices vary.
Record Store Day, Bunker Records – Saturday 16 April
“We mustn’t dwell. No, not today. We can’t. Not on Rex Manning day!” Kids if you don’t know where that’s from get yourself to the internet stat and Google Empire Records. Lucas and crew would surely approve of Bunker Records’ Record Store Day on Saturday 16 April, where there will be limited edition releases and giveaways.
Weetwood – Saturday 16 April
Toowoomba’s favourite race day is here. Weetwood’s first race will start at midday, and you can choose from a number of marquee race day experiences. Get your tickets online and RSVP on Facebook.
Zombie Walk – Saturday 16 April
From 5pm to 8.30pm the streets of Toowoomba will be overrun by the walking dead in the annual Zombie Walk. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and will help raise funds for the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation. Meet at the top of Queens Park from 4pm.
Man Date Festival – Saturday 16 April
Let’s hear it for the boys and their beards and their beer and their manly ways at the first Man Date Festival to be held at the Mort Estate Hotel from 11am. There will be beer, a BBQ, a barbershop and a Beard and Stache competition with over $500 in prizes up for grabs. Plus, live music from local rockers Project 62 and more – tickets are $15, man up and get yours now. And it shouldn’t need to be said, but in case you need to hear it, if you’re a lady you’re invited too.
Pink Fig Mother’s Day Markets – Sunday 17 April
The inaugural Pink Fig Mother’s Day Markets will debut on 17 April. Featuring local, hand-made and high quality items from small businesses and designers throughout the region the market is a school fundraiser for Darling Downs Christian School P&F. It will also include live music, gourmet food and coffee vans, kids’ activities and feature unique vehicles from Toowoomba Hot Rodders. Entry is $6, go and pick Mum up something special from 1pm to 6pm.
First Coat Launch Party – Friday 22 April
About a month until the street art festival that’s breathed a fresh new coat of life into the CBD kicks off. The First Coast Launch Party will be kicking off at Kontraband with an exhibit by artist Elana Mullaly, bar, live music and dumplings, plus a silent auction for the temporary art pieces of the Margaret Street Sugar Jam. Entry is free, however donations encouraged.
Anzac Day Services – Monday 25 April
There will be services across the region, including a dawn service at 5.15am at the Mothers’ Memorial. See the Council website for more details.
Friday Nite Bites – Friday 29 April
There’s been a few false starts but maybe, just maybe it’ll happen this time? Now scheduled to take place at USQ’s Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre from 4pm. We have been promised doughnuts, pizza and more Toowoomba, let’s see if Friday Nite Bites delivers.
