This week it’s all about food and music with a brand new Farmers’ Market and the launch of a new all ages music venue TheGRID Sound from Toowoomba arts collective TheGRID.
Toowoomba Farmers’ Market – Saturday 13 June
Do you know where your food comes from? Shop from the source with the Toowoomba Farmers’ Market, an event that aims to educate consumers and connect them with local artisans and growers. Get there early to see a cow milking demo at 7.15am, and don’t miss buying a raffle ticket for your chance to win food vouchers from local producers. It’s on from 7am to 12pm at 428 Old Goombungee Road, Cawdor.

Winter WonderSlam Roller Derby – Saturday 13 June
Throwback to your Skatehaven days and check out a huge night of Roller Derby at the Clive Berghofer Arena (235 Herries St). This double header bout features the Toowoomba Roller City Rollers Range Renegades vs the Tweed Valley Rollers Valley Valkyries in the first match up of the night, while bout two will see guys and girls from across Queensland get into it.
Spectators can warm up with some hot food or grab a drink from the over 18 bar. Entry is $15 for adults, $10 for students and concessions and $8 for kids aged 6 – 12 years. Kids under five years get in free. The action starts at 5pm, RSVP on their Facebook page.
TheGRID Sound Rock vs Metal – Saturday 13 June
Like it loud? Local bands Project 62 and Zenith will be turning up the volume at TheGRID Sound’s first show at its all ages venue at 488 Ruthven St this Saturday night from 8pm. Tickets $10 at the door ($5 for students). For more check out their Facebook page.
British India – Saturday 13 June
British India are taking their new album Nothing Touches Me across the country and Toowoomba gets our turn this Saturday at the Spotted Cow, at 8.00pm. Tickets are $31.15, to buy them head to the Cow’s website.
Songs in the Key of Motown – Sunday 14 June
Go back to a time before there was a Miley, Iggy or Nicki with the Empire Theatre’s Songs in the Key of Motown. After hearing the best from The Temptations, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson you’ll be searching through your parent’s records for more of that sweet 60s sound. State of Origin Game 2 – Wednesday 17 June

Regional Queensland Showcase – Friday 12-Saturday 13 June
Regional Queensland is open for business, and this event is all about showcasing what makes our regions a great place to live, work and play. Suit and tie types will enjoy the business and investment day on Friday, while there’s plenty for the community to do on Saturday, with two performances from Busby Marou (1pm and 3pm) and special appearances from Shane Webcke and Darren Lockyer. Entry is free, and it’s at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Absinthe – Sunday 14 June
The raunchy, eye-popping and hugely popular cabaret-style show Absinthe ends its run in the spiegeltent in King George Square on Sunday. Witness the crazy adults-only acrobats while you still can. Tickets available from the Absinthe website.
