Theatre: Fly-in Fly-out – Thursday 18-Friday 19 June
Just what does a sea of fluro-clad workers flying in and out for work actually do to the fabric of a mining town? The deBASE Productions performance of Fly-in Fly-Out examines this through the eyes of a 15 year old girl. At the USQ Arts Theatre, tickets for adults are $25.
TheGRID Sound: Astro Travellers, Street 66 and Mystik Crystal Witches – Thursday 18 June
All ages venue TheGRID Sound debuted with a headbang last week with their rock vs metal gig. This week it’s all about hip-hop and celebrating Brisbane group Astro Travellers’ EP release. The music starts at 8pm.
Bunnyconnellen Winter Solstice Pop-up Cooking School – Saturday 20 June
Learn how to make the most of fresh, seasonal produce under the guidance of talented chef Ben MacDonald, a former MasterChef finalist. The $155 ticket includes hands-on tuition, morning tea, lunch and a goodie bag. See the website for details.
Queens Park Market – Sunday 21 June
Don’t have a crafty bone in your body? Me either. Go check out the work of people who are arty and crafty at the Queens Park Market (held the third Sunday of the month) from 8am to 1pm. Take the kids, there’ll be face painting at this one!
Wilsonton Park Heights – Sunday 21 June
Wilsonton, your local park has had an upgrade and you’re invited to the official opening. Check out the paths, dog off-leash area, new play equipment and skate/bike track from 11am-2pm Corner of Tor St and Wine Drive.

Park the Truck – Friday 19 June
Food on wheels is a real thing right now, and while I like the idea of food trucks they’re always moving around and I can never find them. That changes this Friday night at Roma Street Parklands where 16 food trucks will congregate from 5pm to 8pm. Juan More Taco, the Bun Mobile and King of the Wings will all make appearances at this free event that includes live music.
Fake It ‘Til You Make It – Wednesday 24 June
They say it’s funny and it won awards (winner of Best Theatre at both Adelaide Fringe and Fringe World Perth) so check out this play that examines what happens when you find out your partner has clinical depression. At the Brisbane Powerhouse from Wednesday 24 to Saturday 27 June, tickets $39 for adults.
