School’s out this Friday, so if you’re staying in town for the holidays here’s some things to do. With or without the kids.
USQ at the Flicks: Spirited Away – Friday 26 June
Get lost in the colourful magic of Spirited Away, an internationally acclaimed animated film, and enjoy drinks and nibbles beforehand. It’s showing at the USQ Arts Theatre at 6pm, tickets are $15.50 or $12 for members.
TGW & Smithy Bring the Big Fights 10 – Saturday 27 June
Brendon Smith hosts a special fight night at Rumours International this Saturday which will include a Parade of Champions to honour his son, boxer Braydon Smith, who died earlier this year.
Anthony Mundine and Jeff Fenech will be part of the farewell for Braydon.

Toowoomba Wedding Expo – Sunday 28 June
Brides-to-be, start planning your big day at the Toowoomba Wedding Expo from 9am to 2pm at the Highfields Cultural Centre. There’s more than $8,600 in prizes to be won from exhibitors including Kingfisher Bay Resort, Fernwood Fitness and Minx Contemporary Hair Boutique. Entry is $5.
Under Construction – LEGO workshops – Monday 29 June-Friday 10 July
For more than 80 years LEGO has been keeping kids happy and laying silently in wait in darkened rooms for barefoot grownups. This school holidays the Cobb and Co Museum is all about the LEGO with their Construction Zone, featuring daily challenges and live shows.
Live shows will be held daily at 10am, 11.30am and 1pm or you can drop in anytime between 10am and 3pm for some LEGO fun. Tickets $10 per child, see the Cobb and Co website for more details.

Theatre: Australia Day – Thursday 25 June-Friday 26 June
Written by social satirist Jonathan Biggins, Australia Day examines the people and events leading up to Australia Day celebrations in the fictional town of Coriole. At the QUT Gardens Theatre, tickets $42 for adults.
Firebirds parade in the Queen St Mall – Saturday 27 June
Celebrate the Firebirds’ grand final win and get a pic with your favourite player. The parade starts at 12.25pm at Albert Street, see the Brisbane City Council website for more details.
Scenic Rim Eat Local Week – Saturday 27 June-Sunday 5 July
School holidays is the perfect time to pack up the kids and take a drive. Why not head to the Scenic Rim’s Eat Local Week, which is aimed at showcasing the produce and wine of this rich agricultural region.
There’s different events on every day, from degustation dinners, farm tours, and cooking schools. Events include activities for kids or fancy wine-matched meals for adults. Prices vary and you may need to book for some events so check the website for more details.
